It's like smoothing out a map that's been badly folded. There are creases that weren't there before, the scars of something being bent against its desired lines of resistance. Any map here must bear its blemishes, the hasty pencil-scrawls and cigar burns. But even this ragged motley of geography deserves the necessary respect.
